Today, I decided to switch from CVS to SVN for this project. The reasons should be commonly known and fairly obvious. For any developer who is interested in the sources, the old ascii-approach can be found in the repository under branches/gaim-bnet-ascii (see the SVN documentation for infrmation on how to access the repository).

The new development will take place in the trunk.

gaim-bnet is dead ... long live gaim-bnet!

I'm glad to tell that rizzo (aka Don) and the other developers of this project are fien with me taking over the project. During the last weeks, I messed quite a lot with the Terms and Conditions and other documents provided by, and I am pretty sure that there indeed IS a way of having bnet support in Gaim - which is what this project aims at.

I'm afraid that there won't be fast developement in the near future, as there are still some legal problems as well as technical problems - but after these have been solved, I hereby promise that gaim-bnet will be active and functional again.

We are no longer developing gaim-bnet. If someone else wishes to take over, feel free to email me.

There are reports that blizzard has disabled the plain text protocol that gaim-bnet used as well, making it obsolete in addition to the new inactive state.

So long, and thanks for all the fish.

February 10th, 2005. A date which will live in infamy.

Today we let loose upon the world the first release of gaim-bnet. As of this writing the source is available, and win32 build is coming. Please test and file any and all bugs to our bug tracker here.

Release coming soon ... ish

Well we have most of the known kinks worked out and will probably release 0.1.0 in the next couple of days. There are some known RFEs but we've decided to work on those for 0.2.0 and make a release sooner. "Release early and often," after all.

Please give a warm welcome to Dario 'evew' Zilocchi. Dario hails from Italia and in two days done what I haven't done in almost a year. It doesn't hurt that he had already written a bnet client in java as well.

He and I spent some time debugging today and already are logging in and seeing messages come and go. Now we just need to parse those messages and find some other bugs and we'll have something usable!

Welcome Dario!

Just wanted to mention that Gary 'grim' Kramlich has joined the team (which was just me) and has already found some excellent documentation on the bnet protocol that would otherwise have been about 90% of the work needed.

Gary is also one of the famous 'Crazy Patch Writers' for Gaim. Now KNEEL, peasant!

Soon, my children. Soon.

Well maybe not too soon. But I've been on a C kick lately, which is a nice diversion from the slog of PHP coding that I've been doing at night. So if I get free time I'll be looking into this PRPL more.
